But Medicines have to taken by all at times of need. This is where Philanthropic ( as well as Business  ) nature of Pharma companies and various State & Federal laws come into play. Pharma companies give away medicines free of charge because they are genuinely concerned about the 
health care needs of the American people who cannot afford their medicines. It also enhances the image of the pharma companies as an organization of high ethics ( Stock markets richly reward companies of high ethics). Apart from voluntary contribution of these companies they are also required by various Federal and State laws to give away free medicines to the needy. The companies also get substantial tax benefits on this. All this amounts to Several Billion Dollars worth of Medicines being given away free every year.

The main hurdle in claiming the free medicines by needy patients is that not much is known about the medicines offered by the companies and how to apply for them. Pharma companies have separate departments for each specific medicines and each department has a dedicated section to look after free Medicines. This Program is never advertised. Patients who are really in need are expected to find about them. Even most Doctors do not know about the existence of free medicines Programs. 

The basic procedure in applying for free medicines is same for all companies. The patient has to call the free Medicines department of the company and give them his or his Doctor's fax number. The application for free medicines are then faxed to the patient. The patient and the Doctor who prescribe him the medicine have to jointly fill up the details. The patient will have to enclose his income statement details and insurance ( lack of ) details. The same will be faxed/sent to the companies free medicines department. The medicines are then sent by Fedex/UPS /USPS to patient's Doctor. The patient 
collects the medicine from his Doctor. The procedure overall is simple. The main hurdle thus far was not knowing whom to contact. We have compiled in detail the free medicines program for more 850 prescription medicines. It will have program details, Phone & Fax numbers and contact details for 
each medicine. You can find all this in our database.
 

Even if you are covered by Medical Insurance fully you may use the information to help those who are known to you and not covered by Medical insurance. Every year substantial amount of Free medicines worth hundreds of Millions of Dollars are not being disbursed as there are not many who seek it - though there are definitely many who need it but just do not know where and how to ask. We would request all to make full use of the free medicines program.
